- Projects include language classes and scout hut refurbishment.

Derby is poised to benefit from a substantial £850,000 allocation from the East Midlands Mayor's £3m Community Development Fund. This significant investment is earmarked for the Normanton and Arboretum areas, identified as facing high levels of deprivation.
The funding is intended to provide much-needed resources and hope for the future in these communities. Several local projects will receive substantial grants, including nearly £300,000 for Sporting Communities' "Normanton Together" initiative, which will offer language classes and life-skills training.
Additionally, the 176 Project Nile Scouts will receive a similar amount to refurbish a dilapidated scout hut, enabling the establishment of a new Beavers group. Community Action Derby is also granted over £250,000 for its "Arboretum Matters" program, focusing on community leadership and volunteer support.
East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward emphasized that this investment aims to place power and resources directly into local hands, acknowledging the struggles residents face in meeting basic needs. The remaining portion of the £3m fund will be distributed across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
