Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) has become a leading player in AI hardware, reporting a remarkable 757% year-over-year increase in AI-optimized server revenue, which reached $16.13 billion in Q1 FY27. The company's total revenue for the quarter was $43.84 billion, marking an 87.5% year-over-year increase.
Management indicated strong demand, with $24.40 billion in AI orders booked during the quarter. Dell raised its full-year FY27 revenue guidance to between $165.0 and $169.0 billion, projecting roughly $60 billion in AI server revenue for the year. This growth is attributed to the enterprise and sovereign AI buildout.
However, the surge in AI hardware has impacted profitability, with gross margin declining to 17.8% from 21.1% year-over-year. This compression is due to the high volume of AI-related revenue offsetting higher-margin traditional server and storage sales. Despite this, shares have seen significant gains, up 241.91% year to date through July 13, closing at $427.11.
