Delhi EV Policy Inspires National Shift to Electric Trucks
5 Oct
Summary
- Delhi's EV policy bans new petrol/diesel/CNG auto-rickshaws from January 1, 2027.
- Commercial EVs offer lower running costs and reduce urban air pollution.
- Euler Motors expects revenue to double to ₹800 crore by FY27.

Saurav Kumar, Founder and CEO of Euler Motors, has called for nationwide adoption of policies similar to Delhi's EV Policy 2026, which aims to accelerate the transition to electric mobility for commercial vehicles. Delhi's policy, notified on July 1, 2026, will ban the registration of new petrol, diesel, and CNG auto-rickshaws and N1 goods vehicles starting January 1, 2027. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce urban air pollution and lower running costs for fleet operators.
Kumar emphasized that Delhi's policy is comprehensive, addressing demand, supply, charging infrastructure, financing, and registration benefits. He noted that several other states like Maharashtra, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu are already implementing measures to support electrification. Euler Motors itself is experiencing rapid growth, projecting its revenue to double to approximately ₹800 crore by FY27, driven by a surge in demand for electric commercial vehicles, particularly four-wheelers.
Despite positive growth, Euler Motors and other EV startups face challenges, including disadvantages in the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme compared to larger manufacturers and rising input costs for materials like lithium and copper. Kumar also mentioned the sharp increase in memory chip costs due to AI industry demand. Euler Motors is working with industry peers to address these concerns with the government and aims to reach break-even within three years.
