Delhi's government has significantly enhanced its capital spending for 2025-26, with a revised budget reflecting an additional Rs 2,132 crore in capital expenditure. This increase is directed towards fast-tracking critical infrastructure projects, notably allocating an extra Rs 2,117 crore to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for network expansion. The revised estimates also earmark substantial funds for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Transport Corporation's bus network, and the Delhi Jal Board for water supply and sewerage improvements.
A strong emphasis is placed on long-pending infrastructure, with Rs 100 crore allocated to complete the Barapulla Phase-III elevated corridor and Rs 180 crore more for the ambitious Yamuna River cleaning program. The overall budget remains at Rs 1 lakh crore, but capital expenditure has risen to Rs 30,247.56 crore, signaling a strategic move towards long-term asset creation. This reallocation involves a reduction in the revenue budget to facilitate these infrastructure investments.
Further bolstering civic amenities and public services, the revised budget increases funding for sanitation, waste management, and urban infrastructure. Road infrastructure spending nearly doubles to Rs 996 crore to improve quality and ease traffic. The education sector also receives a boost, with Rs 862 crore designated for land acquisition and infrastructure development for universities, underscoring a comprehensive approach to urban development.
