Delaware Gas Prices Surge Ahead of Thanksgiving
19 Nov
Summary
- Delaware drivers face the sharpest gas price increases in the region.
- Average gas prices in Delaware have risen 21 cents in the past week.
- Holiday travelers are cutting back on spending due to rising fuel costs.

Gas prices are rapidly increasing across the region, with Delaware experiencing the most pronounced surge. Drivers in Delaware have seen average gas prices climb by 21 cents in just one week, a steeper rise compared to neighboring Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This significant uptick is causing concern for residents like Bob Eagle of Georgetown, who noted a sudden jump from $2.99 to $3.19 per gallon.
AAA spokesperson Jana Tidwell suggests the price hikes are likely due to supply chain issues, specifically the increased distance fuel is traveling to reach local stations. Despite the increase, Delaware's gas prices remain lower than those in Pennsylvania. As the Thanksgiving holiday nears, many drivers are feeling the pinch, with some, like Patty Murray of Eddystone, already adjusting their holiday budgets.
Tidwell also cautioned that demand typically rises in the week leading up to Thanksgiving, which often results in further price increases. To avoid the weekend rush and potentially higher costs, drivers planning holiday trips are advised to refuel their vehicles in advance.
