Dave Fishwick, the entrepreneur whose success inspired the Netflix film series 'Bank of Dave', has been honored with an OBE in the King's Birthday Honours list. This award recognizes his significant contributions to finance, business, and charitable causes.
Fishwick, a 55-year-old from Burnley, built his fortune initially through supplying minibuses. Following the 2008 financial crisis, he established Burnley Savings and Loans in 2011, an independent lending company dedicated to assisting those affected by the economic downturn. The film 'Bank of Dave' and its sequel documented his work and investigations into loan sharks.
The profits generated by Burnley Savings and Loans, operating under the slogan "Bank on Dave," are directed towards various good causes, primarily in Lancashire. Fishwick attributes his ongoing success to his team, including his wife Nicky and business partner David Henshaw. He is also taking on new international roles, such as becoming an ambassador for 6,000 community banks in the United States.
Looking ahead, Fishwick intends to continue his advocacy for financial literacy and advice. He also revealed that he has been invited to participate in 'Strictly Come Dancing,' finding the prospect fun despite admitting he cannot dance. Other individuals from Lancashire, including paediatric nurse Sara Jane Barr-Frost (MBE) and former Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods (CBE), were also recognized in the honours list.
