CVS Now Fills Pet Prescriptions

CVS Pharmacy is expanding its services to include pet prescriptions through a new pilot program. Approximately 9,000 CVS pharmacies nationwide are now capable of filling specific dog and cat medications, offered through both in-store pickup and mail delivery.

This initiative allows customers to bring in paper prescriptions from their veterinarian or have their vet call or fax the details to a participating CVS. Medications available cover a range of conditions, including allergies, infections, diabetes, and parasite prevention.

The company stated that this expansion means CVS Pharmacy can now cater to every member of the family. This strategic move places CVS alongside other major retailers like Walmart and Publix that have already integrated pet prescription services into their offerings.

Pharmacies stand to gain profitable business from loyal pet owners by adding these services. The profitability stems from fewer pricing regulations and insurance complexities compared to human medications. This announcement saw CVS's stock price increase by 1.6 percent.

Looking ahead, CVS is also preparing to launch Health100, an AI-powered customer platform developed with Google Cloud, later in 2026. This platform is designed to be a central hub for coordinating healthcare services regardless of insurance provider or pharmacy.
