Summary
- Costco is exploring tariff refunds after a Supreme Court ruling.
- Savings from refunds would be passed to members through lower prices.
- The company opened four warehouses in the fiscal second quarter.

Costco is currently evaluating the potential for tariff refunds after a Supreme Court ruling struck down President Trump's global tariffs last month. CEO Ron Vachris stated that if refunds are secured, the company plans to pass these savings directly to its members through lower prices, following a commitment made in past instances where legal challenges yielded recovered charges. The warehouse retailer sued the Trump administration in December, seeking a refund of tariff costs it had paid.
In anticipation of potential future tariffs, Costco is adapting by shifting supply chains, increasing domestic sourcing, and relying more on its private-label Kirkland Signature brand. Vachris noted that the outlook for tariffs remains highly fluid. The company has already reduced prices on items such as eggs, cheese, and coffee due to decreasing inflation. In its fiscal second quarter, Costco reported a profit of $2.04 billion, with revenue rising to $69.6 billion. The retailer also expanded its physical footprint, opening four new warehouses during the quarter and aiming for 28 new openings throughout the fiscal year.
