Bank Integrates Stablecoins: Banking Goes Crypto
18 Sep
Summary
- Column bank now allows instant stablecoin conversions to USD.
- Solana blockchain is the default network for stablecoin transactions.
- Customer stablecoin addresses and bank accounts now share one ledger.

FDIC-member bank Column has launched a new feature allowing customers to send, receive, and instantly convert stablecoins like USDC and USDT into U.S. dollars at any time. The bank has built this stablecoin support directly into its core banking infrastructure. Solana, a high-speed blockchain known for efficient transactions, is designated as the default network for these stablecoin activities. Support for Ethereum and other major blockchain networks is also provided.
The integration aims to bridge the gap between the cryptocurrency and traditional banking systems by eliminating third-party intermediaries. With Column's approach, a customer's stablecoin address and bank account reside on the same ledger. This allows for immediate conversions between stablecoins and U.S. dollars without requiring pre-funding, facilitating transactions like receiving USDC on a Saturday night and paying out via instant networks within seconds. The platform is already experiencing significant growth, with annualized volumes reaching tens of billions.
