Cognizant Faces Revenue Dip, Cuts Forecast Amidst Slowdown
29 Apr
Summary
- Cognizant forecasts quarterly revenue below Wall Street estimates.
- Company trims annual revenue forecast due to economic uncertainty.
- Project Leap aims for savings but incurs restructuring charges.

Cognizant Technology's shares fell approximately 5% in premarket trading after the company projected quarterly revenue below analyst expectations. This cautious outlook stems from uncertainty surrounding client spending on IT services amidst broader macroeconomic headwinds.
Discretionary spending remains constrained, and industries are optimizing costs, which is limiting growth and impacting deal sizes for IT services. Enterprises are approaching technology investments with caution, affecting business visibility.
For the current quarter, Cognizant anticipates revenue between $5.45 billion and $5.52 billion, falling short of the estimated $5.56 billion. The company has also reduced its annual revenue forecast to $22.11 billion-$22.64 billion.
Despite these headwinds, first-quarter revenue grew 5.8% to $5.41 billion. CEO Ravi Kumar highlighted sustained bookings momentum and strong performance from the Financial Services unit.
The company announced 'Project Leap,' an initiative to accelerate its AI-driven model, expecting it to yield $200 million to $300 million in savings by 2026. However, this will involve restructuring charges of $230 million to $320 million, primarily for workforce reductions.
