Cognizant Buys Astreya for $600M AI Boost

Cognizant Technology has entered into an agreement to acquire Astreya, a prominent provider of IT services focused on AI infrastructure and data center solutions, for an estimated $600 million. This acquisition is poised to enhance Cognizant's capacity in AI infrastructure, a critical area as companies increasingly invest in AI technologies that are transforming various industries. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized in the second quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval, and is slated for an official announcement on Wednesday.

This move by Cognizant aligns with its strategy to strengthen its AI business, building upon previous acquisitions such as tech consulting firm 3Cloud and digital engineering firm Belcan. Astreya, established in 2001, brings nearly a decade of experience in managing complex data center infrastructure, AI lab environments, and enterprise networks for some of the largest technology firms. Cognizant aims to leverage Astreya's proprietary AI tooling and production-grade infrastructure platform to better assist clients in building and scaling their AI systems.

Despite recent strategic acquisitions and partnerships with companies like Microsoft and Anthropic to advance its AI offerings, Cognizant has faced market challenges, with its valuation declining significantly this year due to concerns over IT service demand and AI-driven deflation. The acquisition of Astreya represents a key step in Cognizant's efforts to navigate a competitive landscape and capitalize on the growing demand for AI-driven solutions.
