Cochin Shipyard Limited has finalized a substantial international agreement with Denmark's Svitzer for the construction of four state-of-the-art, fully electric tugs. This significant deal, which includes an option for four additional vessels, was officially signed on December 5th, building upon a prior Letter of Intent. The 26-meter long tugs, engineered for high performance with a 70-ton bollard pull, will be manufactured at CSL's facilities according to Svitzer's global fleet renewal standards, with initial deliveries anticipated by the end of 2027.
This strategic collaboration merges Svitzer's extensive experience in sustainable maritime operations with Cochin Shipyard's renowned shipbuilding capabilities and commitment to local innovation. The project's valuation places it within CSL's 'Significant' order category, estimated to be between Rs 250 and Rs 500 crore. The shipyard confirmed that the contract does not involve related-party transactions, reinforcing its commitment to transparent business practices.
