- The Desktop acquisition requires approval from Brazilian regulators.
- Claro seeks deals aligned with customer needs and nationwide presence.

Claro, a prominent telecom operator owned by Mexico's America Movil, has indicated its strategic interest in pursuing additional deals within Brazil. This announcement follows the recent agreement to acquire a significant stake in the internet provider Desktop.
The proposed acquisition involves Claro securing a 73% share of Desktop. The transaction carries an enterprise value of 4 billion reais, with an equity price of approximately 2.4 billion reais after accounting for net debt. This move is strategically aimed at bolstering Claro's presence, particularly in Sao Paulo state, Brazil's most populous region.
This significant acquisition, however, is contingent upon regulatory approvals. Both the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) must grant their consent, a process anticipated to conclude by year-end. Claro's CEO emphasized a deliberate approach to future deals, focusing on strategic alignment with customer requirements and enhancing the company's countrywide service capabilities.
