State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) demonstrated strong operational performance in July 2026, achieving an 8.44% increase in coal production, reaching 50.36 million tonnes. Despite seasonal challenges like rains, the company maintained robust coal supplies, which grew by 18.38% to 64.19 million tonnes in July. This figure represents the highest-ever coal offtake for the month of July in any financial year.
This momentum follows a record performance in June 2026. Cumulatively, CIL's coal supplies for April-July 2026 rose by 6.9% to 262.04 million tonnes, marking another record for the initial four months of the financial year. Supplies to the power sector, CIL's largest consumer, increased by 18% in July.
Key mining activities also saw improvements, with overburden removal rising 21.11% to 120.35 million cubic meters in July. This essential process ensures uninterrupted access to coal seams for sustained production. CIL aims for a production of 815 million tonnes and supplies of 850 million tonnes in the current financial year.
