China's top market regulator convened with leading food delivery services this week. The State Administration for Market Regulation issued a directive requiring these platforms to significantly bolster their food safety measures ahead of new regulations scheduled to be implemented in June.
Companies including Meituan, Taobao Shangou, and JD.com were specifically instructed to adhere strictly to regulatory requirements. They must also actively fulfill their responsibilities concerning food safety. The regulator emphasized the necessity for platforms to conduct prompt self-inspections and implement corrective actions.
Furthermore, these platforms are mandated to maintain stringent control over their entire operational chain, encompassing vetting of vendors, daily management, and the final delivery process. Encouraging food delivery riders to actively participate in safety supervision was also highlighted as a key measure.
