China's EV Charging Network Surges 43% Amidst NEV Push
30 Jul
Summary
- China's EV charging network grew 43% to 23.1 million outlets by June 2026.
- Private charging points surged by 50% to 18 million units.
- NEV sales saw a 13% dip but still dominate over half of car sales.

As of June 2026, China's electric vehicle (EV) charging network has seen a substantial 43% expansion over the past year, reaching 23.1 million charging outlets. This rapid development is a key component of the government's strategy to promote new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles.
The surge in charging infrastructure was primarily driven by individual consumers. The number of private charging points alone grew by 50% year-on-year, totaling 18 million units with a combined capacity of 155 million kilovolt-amperes. The NEA also highlighted improvements in network quality, with an increase in fast-charging systems.
In the first six months of 2026, China's NEV sales decreased by over 13% to 5.09 million units. However, NEVs still accounted for more than 51% of the total domestic vehicle market sales during this period, which saw an overall decline of 21%.
