U.S. oil major Chevron has reaffirmed its commitment to the significant Yoyo-Yolanda gas project. This vital energy initiative is strategically located along the maritime border shared by Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.
In 2023, the two African nations established a bilateral treaty facilitating the joint development of oil and gas reserves within the Gulf of Guinea. This agreement specifically encompasses the Chevron-operated Yoyo and Yolanda fields, which are estimated to contain substantial reserves of 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Chevron's managing director for Nigeria and the mid-Africa region, Jim Swartz, stated that the Yoyo-Yolanda project is central to the company's strategy. This strategy involves supporting long-term liquefied natural gas supply and utilizing existing infrastructure at Alen and Punta Europa.
