Train Boarding Points Changeable Up to 30 Mins Before Departure
5 Apr
Summary
- Passengers can change train boarding points up to 30 minutes before departure.
- This new flexibility applies to confirmed and RAC tickets only, once.
- Requests must be made before the final reservation chart is prepared.

Indian Railways has implemented a new rule allowing passengers to change their train boarding points up to 30 minutes before the train's departure. This enhanced flexibility, effective from April 1, 2026, aims to ease last-minute travel plan changes. Passengers holding confirmed or RAC tickets can avail this facility, which permits a single change of boarding station.
The modification can be made until the second and final reservation chart is prepared, typically half an hour before the train leaves its originating station. This means passengers will not lose their confirmed seats if they are unable to reach their original boarding point. The option to change the boarding station is accessible through both the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) portal and Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters.
This new provision is specifically for passengers with confirmed or RAC tickets; those with waitlisted tickets are not eligible. To change the boarding point online, passengers need to log in to the IRCTC website or app, navigate to 'Booked Ticket History,' select their ticket, and choose the 'Change Boarding Point' option. For counter bookings, passengers can visit a PRS counter to make the request before the final chart preparation.
