The first phase of construction for a £450 million Center Parcs holiday village in the Scottish Borders has commenced. Local companies DE Fencing and RJ McLeod have been appointed as the initial contractors.
DE Fencing will supply and install fencing, while RJ McLeod will undertake enabling works. These works include constructing a 1.5-mile access road, which will serve as the main visitor route upon completion.
Center Parcs chief executive Colin McKinlay highlighted the project's commitment to creating opportunities for local and Scottish businesses. Both DE Fencing and RJ McLeod expressed their delight in being involved early in such a significant development.
Work on the new entrance from the A7 is expected to begin shortly, involving local traffic management. A temporary speed restriction will be in place to ensure safe site access and traffic flow.
The new park will be the seventh Center Parcs in the UK and Ireland but the first in Scotland. It is projected to open by 2029 and aims to generate around 1,200 permanent jobs.
