The Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) operations for Census 2027 have officially commenced in Tamil Nadu and Tripura. This marks the beginning of Phase I of the census in these states, with the Self-Enumeration (SE) facility now active. Residents can utilize this digital tool until July 31.
Following the self-enumeration period, a house-to-house field enumeration will be conducted from August 1 to August 30. This modern approach integrates digital tools, including a dedicated mobile application, with traditional enumeration methods to ensure comprehensive data collection. Information gathered covers housing conditions, household details, available amenities, and assets.
Previously, HLO operations were completed in Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi area. Houselisting in Punjab also concluded. To date, 23 states and Union Territories have successfully completed this first phase of Census 2027. The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasizes that all census data is confidential, used solely for statistical purposes and development planning.
