Celebrity involvement in India's startup ecosystem has shifted from one-off endorsements to a recurring pattern of early-stage and follow-on investments. Between January 2021 and September 4, 2026, ten film and sports personalities participated in 49 funding rounds across 34 Indian startups, with a combined round value of approximately $458 million.
Angel and seed rounds constituted 55% of the activity, with Series A rounds making up another significant portion. Repeat investments were notable, with nine celebrity-company pairings accounting for nearly 45% of the total rounds. Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra led the celebrity investors with 10 rounds.
Consumer-focused businesses in food, beauty, and fashion, along with startups in solar energy, drones, and logistics, dominated these portfolios. Maharashtra was the leading state for these startups, followed by Haryana and Karnataka. Several invested companies have since achieved major milestones, including acquisitions and IPOs.
