Summary
- Payment links allow users to share money requests via hyperlinks.
- This feature aims to reduce social awkwardness in payment requests.
- Gen Z user feedback inspired the development of this new tool.

Cash App, owned by Block, Inc., has introduced a new payment link feature designed to streamline the user experience. This functionality allows users to create and share a unique hyperlink that facilitates payment requests.
Users can access this feature within the app's payment tab by selecting the 'share link' option instead of 'add recipient.' The generated link can then be incorporated into various communication methods such as text messages, emails, or direct messages. Upon clicking the link, the recipient will find the requested payment amount pre-populated, enabling swift transaction processing.
The introduction of payment links follows research indicating that many users engage in multiple communications surrounding payments. Cash App's Product Lead, Kristen Anderson, highlighted that these links aim to make requesting money feel more natural and less uncomfortable, moving beyond the formal nature of in-app notifications.
This feature supports both one-time and recurring payments, as well as group payment scenarios. Cash App has recently expanded its offerings with other new tools, including an AI chatbot for financial advice and a new benefits program.
