Homes Plan Rejected: Football Club Fears Reign
24 Mar
Summary
- Council refused 250 homes due to football club activity fears.
- Concerns raised over congestion and canal marina reopening.
- Homes England's land purchase followed developer failure.

Councillors have refused a planning application for up to 250 homes proposed by Homes England at Lundsfield Quarries in Carnforth. The development faced strong opposition from Carnforth Rangers FC, who expressed serious concerns about the incompatibility of housing with football activities and a noted shortfall of playing pitches. Local residents and Carnforth Town Council also objected, highlighting potential traffic congestion and inadequate community consultation.
Further objections came from the Lancaster Canal Trust, worried about the potential loss of canal boat moorings. Despite planning officers recommending approval with conditions, including a car park for the football club and contributions to sports amenities, the planning committee voted against the proposal on Monday. Homes England had purchased the 29-acre site after a previous developer did not proceed with a prior scheme.
