Summary
- Captain Fresh acquired Spanish tuna processor Frime for European expansion.
- Frime is a major player in Europe's yellowfin tuna market.
- The deal consolidates three major seafood species under one platform.

Captain Fresh, a global packaged seafood company, has finalized its acquisition of Frime, a prominent Spanish tuna processor. This strategic move significantly broadens Captain Fresh's product offerings and strengthens its foothold within the European market.
Founded in 1977, Frime is a substantial entity in the European yellowfin tuna sector, generating over €180 million in revenue. The company boasts extensive operations across 33 countries, including four production sites and modern facilities. A recent €50 million investment has further enhanced its processing capabilities, preparing it for seamless integration into Captain Fresh's existing global supply chain.
This acquisition is a crucial step for Captain Fresh, which already holds strong positions in crustaceans and salmon. By incorporating tuna, the third-largest commercial seafood category globally, Captain Fresh now offers a unified platform for all three major species. This consolidation is expected to transform their go-to-market strategy, enabling scaled distribution of Frime's tuna in the US and deeper penetration of Captain Fresh's crustacean and salmon portfolio into Southern Europe.
Frime's leadership team will continue in their roles, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of expertise. The acquisition accelerates Captain Fresh's objective to become the world's largest vertically integrated packaged seafood conglomerate, extending its operations to over 30 countries and encompassing more than 90 seafood species.
