Canva has recently expanded its creative toolkit with the acquisition of Cavalry, a UK-based company specializing in 2D motion animation for diverse sectors like advertising, gaming, and generative art. This move is set to enhance Canva's professional creative editing suite, Affinity, by incorporating motion editing capabilities, thus creating a complete professional suite that spans photo, vector, layout, and motion.
In addition to Cavalry, Canva has also secured stealth startup MangoAI, which focuses on reinforcement learning systems to improve video ad performance. Founded by former Netflix executives, MangoAI's expertise will be integrated to refine Canva's marketing products. This acquisition is part of Canva's ongoing strategy to strengthen its marketing solutions, as evidenced by previous acquisitions like Magicbrief and the launch of Canva Grow.
These strategic acquisitions signal Canva's intent to bolster its marketing solutions, particularly in video creation and performance measurement. The company reported closing 2025 with $4 billion in annualized revenue and over 265 million users. Canva co-founder and COO Cliff Obrecht highlighted the success of Canva Grow, especially for static content, and indicated upcoming advancements in multi-platform video deployment.
