Canara Bank Shares Surge to 15-Year High on Strong Q2 Results

On October 30, 2025, shares of Canara Bank surged more than 4% after the public sector lender released its financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026. The stock reached a 15-year high of ₹134.25 per share, reflecting the bank's strong performance during the period.
Canara Bank reported a net profit of ₹4,774 crore for Q2 FY26, a 19% year-on-year (YoY) increase from the ₹4,014 crore net profit recorded in the same quarter last year. However, the bank's net interest income (NII) declined 2% YoY to ₹9,141.19 crore.
The improvement in Canara Bank's financial performance was driven by a significant enhancement in asset quality. The bank's net non-performing asset (NPA) ratio decreased to 0.54% in Q2 FY26 from 0.99% in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. Similarly, the gross NPA ratio fell to 2.35% during the September quarter, down from 3.73% in the same period a year ago.
Canara Bank's net profit margin improved to 12.37% in Q2 FY26, up from 11.56% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. The bank's return on assets (ROA) also increased to 1.12%, while credit costs decreased to 0.68%. Total provisions, however, rose nearly 5% YoY to ₹3,814 crore.
