29 May
Summary
- Online cake platform found guilty of service deficiency.
- Ordered cake for grandmother's birthday never arrived.
- Customer awarded Rs 4,231 for non-delivery and harassment.

A Delhi consumer commission has ruled against online cake delivery service IndiaCakes, finding them guilty of deficiency in service. The dispute arose when a half-kg pineapple cake, ordered on February 9, 2024, for a grandmother's birthday in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was not delivered.
The customer paid Rs 756 and was later asked for an additional Rs 275 delivery charge, which was not initially disclosed. IndiaCakes claimed the order was processed but later stated delivery was attempted on February 11, 2024, and refused a refund. However, commission evidence, including an audio recording, indicated the delivery person did not reach the location.
The commission rejected IndiaCakes' defense, noting their own policy suggested refunds for non-delivery due to remote locations. It highlighted that the complainants paid in full and made continuous follow-ups but never received the cake for the special occasion. IndiaCakes was ordered to refund Rs 1,031, with Rs 2,000 compensation and Rs 2,000 litigation costs, to be paid within 60 days.
