The British Virgin Islands is solidifying its position as a significant global center for digital assets and tokenized finance. New research indicates that as of June 1, 2026, the territory controls over 10% of the worldwide market for U.S. tokenized treasuries, representing $1.5 billion in distributed value. This means one in every ten dollars of such assets globally flows through BVI structures.
Further strengthening its dominance, the BVI leads all jurisdictions in the number of tokenized securities, with 305 recorded. The territory also manages $1.2 billion in stablecoin assets, held by over 28,000 individuals. Weekly stablecoin transfer volumes are substantial, currently at $323.5 million, projecting annual on-chain activity to surpass $16.8 billion.
Major industry players, including Tether Holdings (parent of USDT) and Bitfinex, have established their corporate foundations within the BVI. Companies like Binance, Kraken, and Bitstamp by Robinhood also operate licensed entities or affiliates in the jurisdiction. This growth is attributed to the BVI's tax-neutral framework, its Virtual Assets Service Providers Act of 2022, and recognized legal status for digital assets.
