- Telecom ministry's outlay rises by 40% to ₹73,990 crore.

The Union Budget for FY2026-2027 proposes a substantial increase in the telecom ministry's outlay, reaching ₹73,990 crore, a 40% rise from the previous year's revised estimate of ₹53,000 crore. This significant boost is primarily attributed to enhanced capital infusion for the state-run telecom firm, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
BSNL is slated to receive ₹28,473 crore in the upcoming fiscal year, a marked increase from the ₹6,885 crore allocated in FY2025-2026. This funding injection aims to support BSNL's resurgence by covering spectrum costs, network rollout, and other internal capital expenditure needs.
Beyond BSNL, the increased allocation also supports critical national projects such as BharatNet, the rural broadband initiative. Additionally, the development of the North East Region has seen a 50% jump in funding, with a revised estimate of ₹6,800 crore, highlighting a focus on regional development through projects like e-buses and cultural circuits.
