Broadcom & AMD: AI Leaders Outpace Market
16 Aug
Summary
- Broadcom and AMD show strong growth, outpacing the S&P 500.
- Broadcom specializes in custom ASICs, AMD in GPUs and CPUs.
- CPU demand is rising due to agentic AI infrastructure needs.

The AI chip sector continues to be a highly profitable investment, with Broadcom and AMD emerging as key market leaders. As of the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, both companies demonstrated robust financial performance, with Broadcom reporting 48% year-over-year revenue growth and AMD achieving 50% growth.
Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue nearly reached half of its total earnings and more than doubled annually. The company anticipates this segment's revenue to more than triple in the upcoming third quarter. AMD also saw its data center revenue, where AI products are sold, more than double year-over-year, contributing 58% to its total revenue.
The expansion of agentic AI is poised to significantly boost demand for CPUs, which are crucial for processing and retaining information for GPUs. Historically, the ratio has been one CPU per eight GPUs, but future agentic deployments may require a 1:1 or 4:1 ratio, necessitating substantial CPU purchases by hyperscalers.
