Broadband Prices Drop Amidst Rival Hikes
17 Feb
Summary
- Giffgaff reduces broadband plan cost to £29 monthly.
- Rival providers are increasing prices significantly.
- New rules aim to curb mid-contract price hikes.

Mobile and broadband provider Giffgaff is cutting the price of its 200Mbps UK Full Fibre Broadband Plan by £1, bringing the monthly cost down to £29. This decision comes as many other UK broadband companies are set to increase their prices, some by as much as four times the current inflation rate. These hikes, typically occurring in March or April, could add up to £48 annually for some customers.
Efforts are underway to protect consumers from unexpected cost increases. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has reportedly strengthened rules regarding mid-contract price rises through the Telecoms Consumer Charter. However, this charter is voluntary and has been criticized by experts as ineffective. Meanwhile, some providers, like O2, have announced future adjustments to their mid-contract price increase policies, affecting customers from April 2026. Giffgaff's broadband package, launched last year, features a basic 30-day minimum contract with no setup fees. Current members on the 200Mbps plan will automatically benefit from the new pricing at their next renewal. Additionally, mobile customers who joined before January 1, 2026, can receive three months of free broadband if they sign up by April 12, 2026.
