Boeing Sells eVTOL Businesses to Archer Aviation
25 Aug
Summary
- Boeing will sell three aerospace and eVTOL businesses to Archer.
- Boeing gets nearly 20% of Archer after deal closure.
- Boeing retains rights to Wisk's autonomous flight technology.

Boeing has announced a significant strategic move, agreeing to sell three of its key businesses—Wisk, Insitu, and SkyGrid—to Archer Aviation. This transaction, announced on August 10, transforms routine divestitures into a strategic opportunity for Boeing.
Under the terms of the agreement, Boeing will receive a combination of newly issued shares and warrants in Archer. If the deal secures regulatory approval and closes later this year, Boeing is set to own nearly 20% of Archer Aviation. Additionally, Boeing will retain the rights to Wisk's autonomous flight technology for its own aircraft.
While this deal could generate substantial value for Boeing, its market cap of $170 billion means the direct financial impact may be secondary. The primary benefit is enabling Boeing management to redirect focus towards re-establishing its commercial aircraft business, which recently saw positive developments with the FAA's approval of the 737 MAX 7, and bolstering its defense aircraft operations.
