BlueScope Sees Profits More Than Double, Boosts Dividend
16 Feb
Summary
- First-half earnings more than doubled, exceeding profit estimates.
- Strong U.S. market performance and higher volumes fueled growth.
- Interim dividend increased to 65 Australian cents per share.

BlueScope, an Australian steel producer, announced a substantial jump in its first-half financial results. The company reported an underlying net profit after tax of A$382 million, which significantly exceeded analyst predictions and represented more than a two-fold increase from the previous year's A$176.4 million.
This impressive financial performance was attributed to several key factors. Stronger market conditions in the United States, coupled with higher sales volumes across its primary markets and diligent cost control measures, contributed to the earnings surge.
In light of these positive results, BlueScope declared an interim dividend of 65 Australian cents per share. This marks a considerable increase from the 30 Australian cents per share distributed last year. The company's strong performance has occurred while it is reportedly considering a takeover bid.
