Birmingham Hospitality Crisis: More Businesses Shut Doors
24 Jun
Summary
- The Cube Hotel and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse have ceased trading.
- Neighbourhood cafe Caneat in Stirchley also announced its doors are closing.
- Dominic Clarke cited hospitality as a 'horrific way to make a living'.

Birmingham is experiencing a wave of sudden hospitality business closures. The Cube Hotel, which housed Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, announced it has ceased trading with immediate effect on Tuesday. A notice posted outside the venue apologized for any inconvenience, as some patrons arrived for booked meals only to find it closed.
Further adding to the city's hospitality woes, the popular neighbourhood cafe Caneat in Stirchley has also announced it will be shutting its doors. In a social media post, director Dominic Clarke stated that the current environment makes hospitality a "horrific way to try and make a living" and that their business model is no longer sustainable.
These recent closures come on the heels of other establishments, including the Michelin-starred Simpsons, announcing their cessation of trade in recent weeks. Caneat, which opened in 2017, reportedly attempted to adapt but faced challenges in business operations, according to Clarke's statement.
