Bihar's Neora-Jatdumri Rail Link Nears Operation
8 Oct
Summary
- New 20km Neora-Jatdumri railway line inspected and trial run completed.
- The line is part of a larger 123km corridor aimed at easing congestion.
- New route expected to benefit freight operations and passenger connectivity.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted a thorough inspection of the newly constructed 20km Neora-Jatdumri railway line on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a successful special train trial run. This inspection is a critical step towards granting operational clearance for the new track.
This section is integral to the expansive 123km Neora-Daniyawan-Biharsharif-Barbigha-Sheikhpura-Kiul rail corridor. The primary objective of this ambitious project is to establish an alternative rail route, thereby reducing congestion on the heavily saturated Danapur-Patna-Mokama-Kiul main line.
Railway officials anticipate that this new bypass will substantially benefit freight operations, providing a vital additional route for goods trains. This is expected to boost operational efficiency and ease the burden on the current primary corridor. Furthermore, the project aims to enhance passenger connectivity, offering improved rail access to residents in the Nalanda, Sheikhpura, and Kiul regions.
While the Daniyawan-Biharsharif-Sheikhpura-Kiul section is already operational, the completion of the entire corridor, including the Neora-Jatdumri segment, will fortify rail infrastructure in central Bihar. This development promises smoother movement for both passenger and freight trains, linking several important towns and improving overall transportation networks.
