Bhairon Marg Underpass Work Set to Resume in Delhi
7 Apr
Summary
- Indian Railways NOC finally received for Delhi's Bhairon Marg underpass.
- Work on the incomplete underpass is targeted for completion by December 2026.
- A revised design will limit the underpass to light vehicles only.

The Delhi government has officially received a no-objection certificate from Indian Railways, clearing the final hurdle for the completion of the Bhairon Marg underpass. This project is the last remaining component of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Corridor. Public Works Department minister Parvesh Verma announced that construction is expected to resume, with a projected completion date of December 2026.
The underpass has been stalled since mid-2023 due to engineering complexities, including ground sinking near railway lines and the site's proximity to the Yamuna and active railway tracks. Following extensive technical reviews, a redesigned plan was approved in August 2025 by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs. This revised plan reduces the underpass's height and width, designating it for light vehicles.
Once operational, the Bhairon Marg underpass is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion around Pragati Maidan and the ITO corridor. It aims to improve connectivity in east-central Delhi and facilitate smoother traffic flow during major events hosted at the ITPO complex. The project's completion marks a significant step in resolving long-standing infrastructure challenges.
