Bengaluru Property Tax Deadline Extended to May 2026
2 May
Summary
- Karnataka extended the 5% property tax rebate until May 31, 2026.
- Concerns over tax payment process confusion prompted the extension.
- This aims to help residents resolve doubts and complete payments smoothly.

The Karnataka government has extended the 5% property tax rebate deadline to May 31, 2026, benefiting around 25 lakh properties across five municipal corporations in the Greater Bengaluru Area. This crucial extension was prompted by significant concerns raised by residents, especially apartment owners, regarding confusion in the tax payment process.
Issues such as property classification and the designation of some units as bulk waste generators created uncertainty. The Bangalore Apartment Federation had brought these matters to the authorities' attention. A senior official from the Greater Bengaluru Authority confirmed the extension followed a formal state government request, aiming to help residents resolve doubts and facilitate smoother payment completions.
The earlier deadline coincided with a period of high household expenses, including school fees, impacting residents' ability to pay property taxes. Despite the relief measures, civic finances remain a concern, with an estimated revenue shortfall of Rs 500 crore. Authorities anticipate that the extended deadline will improve collections, helping to narrow this gap while offering property owners a second chance to pay with a discount.
