Bengaluru Properties Seized Over Unpaid Tax
30 Mar
Summary
- Bengaluru authorities are auctioning properties for tax arrears.
- Mahadevapura and KR Puram zones have many defaulting property owners.
- Outstanding property tax in Bengaluru exceeds ₹530 crore.

Bengaluru's Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is intensifying efforts to recover over ₹530 crore in unpaid property taxes from nearly 7,000 defaulters across the city. Authorities have initiated auctions for properties belonging to individuals with significant tax arrears. In Mahadevapura and KR Puram zones alone, 28 and 21 properties respectively owe over ₹52 lakh in property taxes.
The GBA has exhausted recovery measures, including issuing show-cause and demand notices, before proceeding with property auctions. Despite some defaulters settling their dues to retain ownership, 51 properties in these two zones remain unresolved. The GBA warns that if outstanding taxes are not paid, they will take ownership of these properties based on guideline values, deduct the tax amount, and return any remaining balance to the owners.
Previously, seven properties were auctioned across East and North zones, generating over ₹7 crore. These enforcement actions are crucial for maintaining civic infrastructure and public welfare initiatives funded by property tax revenue. The GBA urges all property owners to comply with annual tax payment obligations to avoid further penalties and actions.
