10 Nov
Summary
- Bengaluru offers average annual salary of Rs 34.98 lakh for software engineers
- Ahmedabad pays just Rs 8.97 lakh, a 4-fold gap with Bengaluru
- Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, Pune, and Mumbai also among top-paying tech hubs

As of November 10th, 2025, a new analysis by Levels.fyi has shed light on the vast salary differences among software engineers across India's tech hubs. The data shows that Bengaluru continues to dominate as the country's highest-paying city for tech professionals, with an average annual salary of around Rs 34.98 lakh.
In stark contrast, Ahmedabad sits at the bottom of the list, offering engineers an average package of just Rs 8.97 lakh - a pay gap of nearly four times compared to Bengaluru. Hyderabad follows closely behind the tech capital, providing salaries around Rs 30.26 lakh per year, while the Delhi-NCR region stands third with average pay touching Rs 21.38 lakh.
The findings highlight a clear regional divide in India's technology sector. Smaller cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai offer salaries just below the Rs 20 lakh mark, while Kolkata and Ahmedabad remain the lowest-paying, with average packages of Rs 9.15 lakh and Rs 8.97 lakh, respectively.
Several factors contribute to this steep pay disparity, including Bengaluru's status as India's tech hub, the abundance of high-paying roles, and the presence of global IT giants and unicorn startups. Meanwhile, emerging tech centers like Ahmedabad and Kolkata still lack the same density of lucrative opportunities, keeping average salaries lower. However, with the rise of remote work and increasing investment in smaller cities, this gap may gradually begin to shrink in the coming years.
