A Malayali entrepreneur based in Warsaw, Poland, has successfully launched Ayurvod, a vodka-based herbal liqueur drawing inspiration from Ayurvedic traditions. This innovative beverage recently earned a gold medal in the herbal liqueur category at the 2025 Warsaw Spirits Competition.
Midhun Mohan developed Ayurvod, a name merging 'Ayurveda' and 'vodka,' after observing a German herbal drink that, despite using Indian spices, lacked authentic Ayurvedic roots. Unlike traditional Ayurvedic medicines like arishtam, Ayurvod is designed for recreational consumption, featuring about 75 ingredients, including various Indian spices, Polish forest fruits, and jaggery for a distinct sweetness. It is bottled at approximately 40% Alcohol by Volume.
Mohan intentionally crafted Ayurvod for the European market, collaborating with Polish distillers to refine the flavor profile. While currently sold only in Poland, Ayurvod has attracted interest from clients across Europe and West Asia. The entrepreneur plans to introduce beverages to the Indian market later, citing current complexities in navigating its alcoholic beverage sector.
