- Retirement and protection products are key drivers of profitability.
- Company expects sustained profit gains through fiscal year.

Axis Max Life Insurance reported a substantial VNB margin of 23.2% for the June quarter, a notable increase from 20.1% a year prior. This improvement is largely attributed to robust sales in retirement and protection products, alongside strategic channel expansion.
CEO Sumit Madan indicated that the current product mix aligns with the company's long-term strategy, suggesting no near-term product modifications. Analysts from Motilal Oswal and Nomura have expressed optimism, highlighting the insurer's strong annualized premium equivalent (APE) growth and effective product launches.
Madan observed a significant shift in Indian consumer behavior, with increased formal planning for retirement, often starting in their forties. The reduced GST on term and health insurance policies has also simplified sales pitches and boosted demand.
The company's individual new business sum assured grew by 32% in Q1 FY26, with a notable 75% of customer contributions originating from tier 2 and tier 3 towns. Axis Max Life has also strategically reduced its reliance on Axis Bank, expanding its partnerships across various distribution channels.
