India's C&I Sector Gets Energy Efficiency Boost
26 Aug
Summary
- Partnership to fund energy efficiency infrastructure for Indian facilities.
- Energy-as-a-Service model eliminates upfront capital investment for clients.
- Platform targets energy-intensive sectors like pharma and automotive.

Singapore-based August Energy and India's Energeia have formed a strategic partnership to establish the August Energeia platform. This new entity is capitalized at $100 million and is designed to profitably decarbonize commercial and industrial facilities throughout India.
The platform will provide essential energy efficiency infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on 'cooling as a service'. This innovative approach allows factories and commercial buildings to upgrade critical systems like cooling, heating, and renewable energy sources without requiring any initial capital outlay from their end.
August Energeia will manage the financing, implementation, and ongoing operation of these energy projects. Project economics are directly tied to the performance and savings achieved, aligning incentives for both partners and clients. The initiative specifically targets energy-intensive industries.
Key sectors slated for upgrades include pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, hospitality, healthcare, data centers, REITs, and commercial real estate. This partnership addresses a major obstacle in industrial decarbonization: the upfront cost of modernizing energy infrastructure.
By shifting from capital expenditure to a predictable, performance-linked operational expenditure model, the platform removes financial friction. Clients can focus on their core business operations and growth, while specialist operators handle the investment and performance of energy infrastructure.
