Astra Microwave Products Ltd has announced a major contract win, valued at ₹171.38 crore, from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The order encompasses the supply of six Klystron-based S-band polarimetric Doppler weather radars, along with associated systems and extensive maintenance support. This development is set to bolster India's national weather surveillance infrastructure.
The comprehensive deal includes automatic weather stations (AWS), disdrometers, and provisions for a three-year warranty followed by a seven-year annual maintenance contract. The project is slated for execution within 18 months, contributing to the IMD's ongoing efforts to upgrade its forecasting capabilities for severe weather events like cyclones.
This significant order arrives amidst a period of financial challenges for Astra Microwave, which reported a decline in revenue and net profit for the September quarter of FY26. Despite these recent downturns, the company's shares saw a modest increase ahead of the announcement, highlighting investor optimism following the substantial new contract.
