10 Mar
Summary
- Assam tea garden workers to receive a Rs 30 daily wage increase.
- The wage hike is effective from April 1, 2026.
- This increase applies to workers in both estate and small tea gardens.

Effective April 1, 2026, tea garden workers in Assam will receive an interim daily wage increase of Rs 30. This decision follows a recommendation from the Minimum Wages Advisory Board for tea plantation workers. The hike will apply to employees in both estate gardens and smaller tea gardens throughout the state.
Workers in the Brahmaputra valley will see their daily wage rise to Rs 280 from the current Rs 250. Similarly, those in the Barak valley will earn Rs 258 daily, up from Rs 228. The Assam government's notification on March 7 confirmed this interim increase.
This wage adjustment marks the second such hike in recent times, with a Rs 18 increase implemented in October 2023. The state Cabinet had previously approved the Rs 30 increase on February 26 after tripartite discussions involving the government, labor unions, and garden owners.
