Apple iPhone Dominates Slumping China Market
12 Feb
Summary
- iPhone sales grew 8% in China, bucking a market-wide decline.
- Apple and Huawei now lead China's smartphone market share.
- iPhone 17 base models now qualify for government subsidies.

In January, Apple's iPhone emerged as the sole smartphone line to register sales growth in China, a market that experienced an overall decline of 23%. Major Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi saw significant drops in their sales.
Apple achieved an 8% sales increase, elevating its market share to roughly one-fifth, and now shares the lead with Huawei. This resurgence follows the September introduction of new iPhone models, which propelled shipments during the holiday season to Apple's best-ever iPhone quarter in China.
The iPhone 17's base version's eligibility for government subsidies has boosted its appeal, contributing to a 9% month-on-month sales increase. Researchers noted that other brands have not yet initiated their most intensive promotional phases, with the upcoming Lunar New Year festival expected to be the main driver of seasonal buying.
