Anthropic Localizes Pricing in India
13 Jul
Summary
- Anthropic has started localizing Claude's pricing in India.
- India is Anthropic's second-largest market after the U.S.
- New Indian rupee prices are listed on Claude's website and apps.

Anthropic has initiated the localization of Claude's pricing in India, a significant step as the AI company expands its presence in its largest market outside the United States. This strategic move addresses long-standing user requests for rupee-denominated subscriptions, aiming to reduce friction caused by dollar pricing and currency conversion. India represents 5.8% of global Claude usage, underscoring its importance as the second-largest market for the AI service.
Currently, Claude Pro is priced at approximately $21 per month annually in India, compared to $17 in the U.S., with other plans like Claude Max and Team also reflecting localized rates that include local taxes. While payments are not yet supported through India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), users can still pay via card or app store billing systems. Anthropic has been actively strengthening its operations in India, opening an office in Bengaluru and appointing a new country lead, alongside forming partnerships with major Indian IT service providers like Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services.
This localization effort follows a period of increased focus on the Indian market, which is characterized by a large pool of developers and tech workers. However, converting widespread usage into paid subscriptions remains a key challenge in this price-sensitive economy. Anthropic's efforts to scale enterprise AI deployments in India are ongoing, despite a previous temporary restriction on access to some of its advanced models for non-U.S. entities, which has since been partially resolved.
