AMD Surges on Strong Earnings, AI Future
4 Nov
Summary
- AMD revenue exceeded estimates with a 45% year-on-year growth.
- Data center business now drives majority of revenue and future growth.
- CEO projects server revenue to double by 2027, accelerating AI growth.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) experienced a significant surge in its stock value, climbing as much as 8% in extended trading on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This rise followed the company's robust third-quarter performance and a strong outlook for the subsequent quarter.
For the third quarter, AMD reported revenue of $13.38 billion, surpassing the $13.09 billion estimate. This represented a substantial 45% increase year-on-year. Earnings Per Share (EPS) also exceeded expectations, reaching $2.09 against a forecast of $1.95.
Looking ahead to the ongoing quarter, AMD projected revenue of approximately $17 billion, with a permissible variation of 3%, comfortably exceeding the average analyst estimate of $16.3 billion. The company's leadership expressed confidence in future growth.
AMD's MD & CEO, Lisa Su, articulated an optimistic vision, forecasting that the company's server revenue will double from 2027 levels. She further anticipates that data center AI growth will accelerate even more rapidly than previously projected.
Crucially, the data center segment is now poised to contribute the majority of AMD's future revenue and earnings growth. During the recent quarter, this segment accounted for 64% of overall topline revenue, a notable increase from the previous 47%.
AMD's server CPUs are identified as essential components for agentic applications, powering virtual machines capable of autonomous operation. This specific demand from agentic applications contributed to AMD's record-high stock prices in the preceding month. Su expects this demand to escalate significantly as more agents are deployed for complex tasks.
In contrast to the strong data center performance, AMD's PC chip sales saw an 8% year-on-year decline, though this segment now represents a smaller portion of the overall business. This mirrors a broader trend in the PC market, which Intel had previously flagged as slowing globally.
The company also disclosed a commitment to invest $5 billion in Anthropic, a company preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Following the earnings call, Su indicated plans to "substantially increase" their supply over the upcoming year.
AMD shares concluded Tuesday's extended trading session at $516.32, marking a 6.7% increase. Prior to the results announcement, the stock had already closed 3.7% higher in regular trading. Year-to-date, AMD's stock performance has been remarkable, with a 117% increase.
