Amazon Robotics Unit Faces New Job Cuts
5 Mar
Summary
- Amazon confirmed layoffs in its robotics unit affecting over 100 white-collar roles.
- The robotics division is crucial for warehouse automation design.
- This follows previous large-scale layoffs in October and January.

Amazon has confirmed a new round of layoffs affecting its robotics unit, with sources indicating that over 100 white-collar positions have been eliminated. This division is integral to the design of robots and automation systems used primarily in the company's warehouses. The recent cuts follow a broader layoff of approximately 16,000 employees announced in January, where Amazon hinted that further reductions were anticipated.
These latest actions are part of a larger trend of workforce adjustments at Amazon. Since October 2025, the company has reduced its corporate workforce by nearly 30,000 employees, attributing these cuts to efficiency gains from artificial intelligence and a review of company culture. The robotics unit's development of a robotic arm called Blue Jay, demonstrated in October, has also been halted.
In addition to the significant reductions in its corporate and robotics divisions, Amazon has also trimmed jobs in other areas over the past year, including its devices and services, books, podcasts, and public relations units. The company stated that these organizational reviews are standard practice to ensure teams are best positioned for innovation and customer delivery.
