Alibaba Forms AI Task Force Amid Exec Departures

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd has announced the formation of a new task force focused on expediting its foundation model development.
The initiative comes in the wake of Lin Junyang's resignation as head of the company's Qwen AI division. Lin's departure marks the third senior executive from Qwen to leave this year.
The newly formed task force will be under the direct coordination of Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu. He will work alongside Group Chief Technology Officer Wu Zeming and Alibaba Cloud CTO Zhou Jingren.
This leadership trio will spearhead the mobilization of resources across the entire Alibaba Group to bolster AI development efforts. Zhou Jingren will also continue to lead Tongyi Laboratory, Alibaba's dedicated AI research arm.
Alibaba confirmed Lin's departure in a letter to staff, reiterating its commitment to channeling additional resources into its AI development endeavors.
