Airlines Cut Summer Flights Amidst Safety Concerns
29 Mar
Summary
- Airlines will operate fewer flights in the summer schedule.
- A 10% reduction in domestic flights is expected compared to last year.
- This decision follows IndiGo's major disruptions in December 2025.

Airlines will be operating a reduced number of flights during the current summer schedule, which runs from March 29 to October 24. This decision by civil aviation authorities stems from the extensive operational disruptions caused by IndiGo in December 2025.
Authorities are adopting a more moderate stance in approving flight services, aiming to prevent a recurrence of past issues. Consequently, airlines are expected to operate at least 10% fewer domestic flights compared to the same period last year.
This reduction translates to approximately 2,561 fewer weekly flights, bringing the total to around 23,049. The approval process considered aircraft availability and pilot numbers. IndiGo plans to commence with nearly 2,000 daily flights in April, though further reductions are possible.
The current geopolitical situation, including the Middle East conflict which began on February 28, has increased operational complexities, impacting the schedule prepared in January and February.
